Well hello there. I’m Thomas.
But you can call me Scags if you’re into the whole brevity thing.
Born on New York’s Lawn-Guy-Land, I grew up in the deserts of Arizona, the cornfields of Illinois, and the plastic-fantastic O.C.
Moving that much as a kid taught me the value of being adaptable, how much a sense of humor can help you fit in, and never to mess with fire ants. They’re mean everywhere.
In undergrad I had dreams of becoming a theoretical physicist until the harsh reality of second year calculus kicked in. I also hated that there was almost always only one right answer.
Luckily, I found a profession where there can be more than one right answer – you just need to be convincing.

In eighth grade I got in trouble for writing a parody of “Ice Ice Baby” and passing it around during class.
In college I worked at Chez Panisse, where I developed a taste for food and wine that has since served me well.
After college I spent almost 10 months backpacking (and working) through
Thailand, Laos, France, Italy, Spain, England, Ireland, Germany, Norway, and Sweden.
I have a steel rod inside my right tibia – knee to ankle – from a snowboarding accident. That didn’t stop me from going Heli-boarding in Banff 2 years later, and I still ride on occasion.
I finished the NYC Marathon in 2014 in just over 4 hours.
